W4R3 - Feeling like a runner

It's been a tough but rewarding week, tough as in I just couldn't be bothered sometimes! But I forced myself out the front door into the pouring rain and just really went for it, this week has seen my greatest increase in physical stamina I believe, run 1 was tough and I was really slowing my pace down to get there, now I just finished run 3 without slowing my pace down at all for the last 2 runs, I crossed about twice the distance I usually do in that time, by the time I had finished I was knackered as I had really pushed myself on speed this time, but it was so much more rewarding as I felt I wasn't cheating by jogging at a snails pace. Had a bit of a rocky balboa up the steps sort of celebration as I'm sure a lot of us have at one point!

I've also noticed how much quicker I recover during the walk breaks or after I finish the run, the first run of the week was real sore on my calves but I think this is because I'm slowing my pace so much that i'm sort of hopping up and down and landing heavy on my feet, for this run I just ran at the speed that felt right, had no pains at all.

Starting a kickboxing course on the 27th, I never would have signed up for that had I not been confident that couch to 5k will have me at a good fitness level for starting that sort of activity so it's made a real positive change to my life. Kickboxing is something i've always wanted to get into but I wouldn't want to be the least fit person there potentially giving up from not being able to keep up, I'm feeling confident that in a room full of beginners I won't be at the back during the laps round the block or on the floor after a load of starjumps and pressups.

Run 1 of week 5 looks to be too easy, 3 minutes of walking between the 5 minute runs? I'll just trust the program and not question it :)

Snail's pace is fine... nothing wrong with it at all...and certainly not cheating. Slow and steady builds up the stamina and strength steadily...also the leg muscles.. which could be useful when you start kick boxing :)

Take it gently as you move into Week 5 and 6...it is about more than the runs..it is about the discipline in our running and so useful.. well done you :)
