The impact of running stresses your legs in a way that other non impact exercise does not, hence the requirement for the rest day between runs.

Some aches and minor pains are inevitable when you start any unfamiliar exercise regime but will ease over the first few weeks.

Stretching after each run can help to minimise these aches. If you read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... it gives you basic advice, including links to stretches.

Thanks for the advise , think you have hit the nail on the head with regard to stretching before and after running, completed a more comprehensive stretching before W2R2 and the muscles in my legs did feel easier

Cheers Martin
