Yoga on rest days?

I've just started C25K after making hundreds of excuses for too long. Managed to get over my nerves today and so the first run so feeling pretty pleased! But I wondered whether it would be ok to do some light yoga on the rest days? I'm thinking just half an hour at home, not a class or anything. What are people's thoughts?

Thanks!

Well done on starting! That's the first crucial step. 😀 You should feel proud!

I do yoga on my rest days. I try and focus on yoga for strengthening - hips, legs, glutes and core. Have you done yoga before? The only reason I am confident doing it at home is because I did attend classes for many years. Now I use an app at home (Yoga Studio). It is pretty good, and even has classes especially tailored for strength training, and after run stretching. If you've never done classes before I wouldn't recommend practicing on your own without a teacher - good posture is key. If you have, then the app I mention is pretty great. Yoga can compliment running really well.

Or, any other non-weight bearing exercise is good - cycling, swimming, strength training.

Enjoy your running! I am totally hooked. 🏃‍♀️😀

exactly what Sadie-runs said, wouldn't recommend starting yoga without a teacher. They can see things about your posture that you can't, can immediately recommend variations if they see you have trouble, etc.

But any non-impact exercise on rest days is great, in fact to be recommended as it supplements your running :)

Well done on starting! Enjoy x

Thank you both! I have done a few yoga classes in the past but it's been a while so maybe I should revisit a couple to jog my memory! Will look into it.

So pleased to have started running finally and looking forward to getting back out there!
