Well after a cold and having to have a number of days between each day of the programme Iโ€™m back on it โ˜บ๏ธ. Iโ€™m finding the cardio is okay but my ankles, knees and hips suffer for about the first couple of runs of the routine. I have proper running shoes so just wondering if this is normal or whether Iโ€™m just getting old ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ ...

Warm up really well and stretch after every run... Exercise on rest days too can help..walking swimming or cycling... try these too ? Non impact exercise on rest days becomes even more important when the runs get longer:)

Try to land lightly and just take it very slow and steady!

Well done for getting back on track!

PS

Not sure if old age affects anything really.. I am 67 :)

Thanks โ˜บ๏ธ didnโ€™t realise you should do non impact exercise on rest days so Iโ€™ll have a think. I do like yoga and suppose that would help?

It does take some time to build up running legs, good shoes and good technique certainly help though. Try not to overdo it, take it slow and steady... I found there was a bit of a seesaw between legs and cardio... gait analysis was the big thing for helping me reduce aches and pains.

Thanks Cliff, whatโ€™s gait analysis? Is that where they look at how you run and then you can buy the best running shoes for your style?

Yep, typically the nice folks at the running shop put you on a treadmill and analyse your footfall by videoing it and looking at it in slow motion. They then fit you with the right shoes to correct any issues. I get mine redone every time I get new shoes.
