Well here we are at week 6 of the new Quest πŸ•ΊπŸ½. The final week!!How are you all doing?

I decided to call it this as we have experienced a lot of rain in the UK this Summer....!!! Some people love to run in the rain ( me!!!) and others don't... I think running in the rain can mean so many things: Having fun, enjoying nature, running through stormy times in our lives and also the chance to embrace something different to what we are used to. So I would encourage you to use this quest to go outside of your boundaries and try something different. Or if you are struggling, use it to re- energise your running journey and refresh your goals.

Welcome to Week 1... πŸ•ΆπŸŒ‚

What the quest is:-

The quest takes six weeks.

You can join any time within that six weeks.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

We ask that you are a graduate . The main reason we ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured, so we wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put:

I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will be added for the duration of the Quest.

Good Luck everybody !

Oh boy, into the last week and a lot to do...

The cycling won't happen (but that's 'cos my cycling partner has been busy tarting up the kitchen and is going away)

The swimming - I aimed to swim 3km which on form I am well capable of doing over six weeks but I've not been at all. Might see if I can get half a kilometre in though before the end, to show willing! It's a bit easier now the school holidays are over.

The running - I simply aimed for 5 runs and that's very modest. And I have two runs to get in this week to achieve that. A bit of a wake up call about prioritising I think, although I do have to take into account two crammed and walking filled trips away from home which have had to be recovered from) I have certainly run in the rain and enjoyed doing so.

The yoga - I aimed for 5 yoga sessions. Smashed that one out of the park, so chuffed! I was just about squeezing out one a week or thereabouts but something clicked on 1st September and I've done a daily session since then.

So, into the final weekend of the Quest and very happy to report that in a challenging week I did get in my two runs so my running goal was achieved.

Possible wobble mid-week on the yoga as a new programme proved rather more challenging than usual, and on top of life pressures but have done some catching up so still feeling good about the yoga.

Prioritised those over a token swim.

Now to consider what to pursue next time...

The pressure is on. I was away this weekend with friends and intended to do Parkrun and then a 10k. Failed on both counts, mostly because of the weather. I only did one lap of Parkrun because the rain was so heavy and I was so absolutely miserable. On the next day, the friend I was running with had a slightly dodgy knee so we walked over a dubious patch of stony ground on the beach and never really got going again - then the heavens opened just as we arrived at a cafe, so we supported local business by partaking of tea and crumpets before plodding home at a walk. Meanwhile, the four others had bounded off and completed about 16k or so...

I have this week to complete my 17km. However I am in Whitby and the sun is shining, and I am about to go for a run. You never know?

Aaaaaaah, tell Auntie Jellyfish all about it!

(There's always Thursday, or Saturday... or is there? Is it a goal to chuck in that infamous bucket?)

Aargh the last week already?! I'm back online after the return-to-school maelstrom, I've been doing the quest just not able to post about it I promise!

- I ticked off my goal about keeping active on holiday big-time, yay! I did 2x30 min runs (had to get up very early, it was HOT!), did Strength & Flex twice with my daughter, swam in the sea every day, walked up 250 steps back from the beach at least once a day, hiked up a mountain, and went kayaking. I reined in the cheese-fest and didn't put on any weight. I wore a bikini for the first time in 13 years! (it involved huge pants and there remains progress to be made on the tum, but still!) More importantly, I really noticed the difference in my ability to handle walking up the steps, swimming further than I normally can etc - by jove this programme really works!

- On the last day of the holiday I cut my toe badly, it was very painful to walk and running was out of the question for a week, then during that week after we got back everyone was ill and I didn't manage to do any exercise even of the hobbling variety. Yikes! I had been worried about what would happen to my fitness if I had a week off.

- In the weeks since then I've repeated week 9 of C25K to try to get back to where I was. The first day was excruciating! Extremely intense hip ache (hip flexors??) which I've never had before, it's gradually eased the more runs I've done. But this week I've done 3 runs as week 9 and it's been ok, even good. Today I was definitely going faster, though I didn't track my speed, in fact I would call what I was doing in the last 10 mins most definitely 'running' rather than my usual jog.

- I've been too scared to try the trick of repeating week 1 with faster and slower runs but maybe another couple of weeks repeating week 9 and trying to speed up and I will give that one a go.

- Strength and Flex has fallen by the wayside, now my daughter's back at school we haven't managed to find a time that fits in yet. I still really want to do that though, it's just a question of logistics so I hope to sort that out for next week. I need a new Quest!

Oh my goodness, I'm exhausted reading that... well done you've really done well. Don't overdo it and allow time for the body to rest too 😎

I'm struggling to be honest. My event was great but it floored me, I'm working back up to feeling confident again. Still swimming, core and walking every week as well. I have had to tone things down a bit as I had bitten off more than I could chew. 😳.

You have done so well, and persevering on the core and swimming etc is vital building blocks to getting back there...

Very happy with this quest. Now running 5k most runs easily. Taking rest days when I need to and enjoying my running. Feeling strong.😊
