Just thought I would share the sight that greeted me at the end of my run yesterday.

In 1943 as part of his O.C.T.U. training at Catterick, my Dad had a week's battle camp at Lake Ullswater. In one of the exercises, he h ad to swim across the lake in full battle dress. They told him that if he got into trouble he should yell for help. It was freezing cold at the time. For the first 200 yards he managed OK, but then all his equipment got waterlogged and he lost buoyancy. So he yelled for help and a dinghy appeared out of nowhere which had been tracking him. They told him to grab the side of the dinghy, and lower his feet. To his immense chagrin, he stood up in three feet of water!

Clearly he didn't have a wonderful forum like this to yell "Come on!! You can do it!!"

Love Ullswater. Done lots of waking round there but never running. Fell runners are a different breed altogether. Nice view:)!!!

Lovely!

I would love to run fells! I have done one shorter fell race and think it could be the way forward as an older runner
