Hello, I'm new here....

I am soon to be 68 years young and refuse to grow old.

Three years ago, I attempted to do Couch to 5K and was progressing nicely when I was on a walk with my grandkids I fell (for no good reason) and broke my arm. That stopped me at the time but I feel compelled to try again.

As I recall, in that attempt I did suffer from shin splints.

I have started my journey again and have just finished Week 1 Day 2.

Any others of my age attempting to complete this journey?

Hi katydid1. Welcome back to running. I'm 53 but have been plagued with weight and back issues since the age of 18. This is one of many attempts to learn to run but this time I joined a group and the difference is noticeable. They keep me going when I would probably give up.

Regarding shin splints, I just wanted to offer my recent experience. My shins started to hurt in weeks 3 and 4 and I mentioned it to one of my run leaders. She noticed that I was leaning forwards whilst running (I think due to my back) and so she encouraged me to straighten up, which wasn't impossible. With that extra effort of running upright the pain in my shins dissipated and hasn't returned. So my one piece of advice, for what it's worth, is straighten up and hold your shoulders back and hips forward. Good luck! I hope that helps, if only a little.

Thanks so much for your tip regarding shin splints. I will keep that in mind while I'm on my journey.

Good luck to you.

Many of us, like you do not see any reason why our mature status should stop us doing anything at all that we want to do !

Welcome back ! Well done too.... and, you know the form... slow and steady does it...keep posting too...lots of great advice on here still. Loads of friends on here that you will know from your previous visits too!

Hi katydid1. Glad to hear you're fit and back in. I'm 69 and did c25k first about 4 years ago. Since then I've repeated it after an injury related to hiking too far, not running! I now try to run 2-3 times a week just for fun. Good luck and keep going, it's really worth it.
