Most running clubs let you along to a session or two to try before you commit to join. You'll never know unless you give it a go.....

I was also thinking of that. I think I may do it after I have completed the program.

As Henpen says, go along and try it out. I have no regrets, lots of great people offering advice and support.

I've been to a beginners running group a few times, just once a week. It's been very friendly and a nice way to run with other people. I've found it useful for motivation. If you find the right group for your level I should think you'll be fine!

Yes from me! I'd love to join a club, even for just once a week, but can't seem to fit anything in round my offspring...

My local clubs let you go try it out before committing. I also looked into it online first too. One club just looked way too competitive (they had a bunch of profiles online and they all looked semi pro and hyper competitive!), just not what I was looking for. You might find a local club does a beginners course so you could meet people at a similar level in a friendly supportive environment.

My running club is great, I tend to only go once s a week but have the option of 4 runs a week and it's ladies only and they're all really friendly and chatty (...we also run!)

I'd recommend looking at your options online, getting in touch with some of them, then go try them out, you may find the atmosphere is very different.

Good luck :-)

Definitely! If it's anything like my club, they're really friendly and supportive.

It's a brilliant way of taking your running to the next level with proper coaching

Wow thanks for all the replies, i think I'm just going to have to swallow my nervousness and just give it a go, by all accounts above It sounds like a good way to progress, and it's only once a week ... I will I'm gonna give it a go! 😼

i've joined a club. I think from a motivational side of things it is a good idea. I do find the atmosphere supportive. I'm quite slow at the moment so lag behind. The faster members loop back and encourage me along. Its nice.

🙈 I don't know if I could cope with that, people lapping me every week dead fit and fast telling me to keep going, I don't think I could think of any thing more de motivational, I liked the thought of people at the same fitness and running experiance more my kind of camaraderie .... On no I'm gonna be the slow one 😮 everyone else is gonna feel sorry for puffing and panting and sweating profusely 😤 😓

I really hope whatever you decide to do it works for you. I have tried running on my own and with a club and other people at the moment i feel extremely motivated and inspired. People though have their own reasons for running and their own motivations. I don't think that you have anything to lose by giving it a try...if it isn't for you so what. And for me the picture you paint above isn't what's happening with my club running. I don't think any of them feel sorry for me and many of them run with me just because they want to .As for puffing and panting and sweating profusely i generally run at a pace where i can talk to the people i am running with, if i am running with people.

Hi. I share your fears & have been toying with the same idea. I've signed up for a Beginners Running Course with a local club which seems v good value (starting next week - arrgghh!!) to also do a kind of "try before you buy" to test the waters. A lot of good advice has already been given. Why don't you get in touch with a couple, explain your standard, sound them out if they have suitable groups & ask todo a trial run? What have you got to lose? Best of luck & let us know how you get on. :)
