I'm based in the UK. As standard we are only given checks for 3 years in total. That includes 6mth bloods and 2 ct scans. I can't help worry this isn't long enough reading many posts of recurrences after this time.
I was told this morning that if its going to come back it will do so in first two years.
Considering I had no symptoms till my colon was completely blocked I find it concerning.

You and I had a similar colon cancer start. I have Lynch Syndrome which is a hereditary. I failed to catch it early and had to deal with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer. I am 10 years now from diagnosis. My surveillance for recurrence for any new cancer is an annual colonoscopy, bloodwork, and CT scan.
I can sympathize with your concerns about recurrence. Is there a history of your cancers running in your family? I would think with sigmoid colon in the picture, you'd need a colonoscopy every now and then. You also had spread to lungs. Did you follow up with your doctor about that?
I would definitely speak with your GP as to why you are "standard" and "only given checks for 3 years in total."
Definitely get some conversation with your doctor about your concerns. We wish you the best with that and please let us know how the discussions turned out.
Thank you

Hi, I’ve had a colon re-section and chemo but I’m into my final fifth year of annual CT scans. I thought 5 years was the standard so I’m a bit surprised that you’ve been told 3 years.
I suppose its different depending on what the hospital wants to spend there budget on. I keep seeing people saying they had it come back after 3 years. I have a ct next week and I'm sure she said it's the last one!!
Try not to worry. I know it’s easier said than done. I think cancer becomes less likely to come back the longer you’re in remission. My uncle had bowel cancer too. He had treatment in his 50s. It came back late 70’s. If you feel different or have any symptoms at any time, speak to your GP. My doctors have been great with my anxiety. Live every day to the full! I’ve decided to quit my job as my husband is retiring. I need to do something to pay the bills but after 24 years of teaching I feel I need a change! Put those anxieties away and focus on living.
