I find it harder to get dressed,or walk about and feel weaker than usual. My doctor doesn't seem to take much notice about the cmt that I have.i dont knew whether to ask if i can see a neurolagist as I haven't be to see one since first diagnosed.

I have had C.M.T.Type 1A all my life, but was finally diagnosed in 1998 by my Neurologist. Also I have been on daily medication to control my B.P. since 2004, and have had no ill effects whilst taking Zemtard (diltiazem) 300mg + Ibersatan 300mg + Digoxin 250micros:

However, I did have severe muscle pain when I was prescribed a statin (Simstavatin), to control my high cholesterol levels: Statins are noted for causing unwanted muscle pains: My G.P. did a blood test which proved negative: Eventually he agreed to prescribe Atorvastatin 40mg: Hey Preso ! all pain gone - chloresterol levels back to normal :

Best of luck - Positive Mental Mangement is the only way to handle this disease, DO NOT LET IT GET THE BETTER OF YOU !

I've had type 1A too all my life but was only diagnosed 20 yrs, age 35. I don't have blood pressure tablets but I do find myself weaker and more susceptible to side effects from any drugs and get bowled over easily from things that other people cope with well. My GP knew about the side effects from simvastatin so she put me on just half a dose. It did the trick with my cholestrol but doesn't give muscle pain, I must add I don't eat a bad diet anyway and never have, I like salad type things best.

I did have trouble with pain relief at one point. I was given various tri-cyclic antidepressants and they all made me feel fat headed and sick. Then I was given Lofepramine and that worked fine, though I don't get full pain relief from the small dose I take but taking more makes me feel ill. I think drs are told to try the old type of tri-cyclic antidepressants first because they're cheaper.

i was diagnosed with cmt type 1 a when i was 3 yrs old drs can only prescribe cheap drugs like gabapentin for pain only a specialist can prescribe more expensive drugs like pregabalin for pain.i guess its the same with all drugs.

Hi l too would be interested in bp tabs, have recently been diagnosed and put on amlodipine, and am really suffering with painful swollen feet and aching muscles. Also my leg movement has got a lot worse in the night always had restless legs but this is far worse. Dont want to go to gp till l have answers cos he doesnt understand cmt.

hi,thats exactly how I was on those tablets. it was agony. I told the doctor i couldn't take them and went on to some different ones called Telmisarton.I had taken them before but only for a few days before going into hospital so didn't realise what the full side effects were. I was on 40mgand felt very unwell and had diarrhoea all the time which got worse after about 5 days.I also noticed that my BP seemed to go down when I didn't take any at all and up when i took them.so I have left them off this week and have been drinking apple cidere vinigar with honey water and cherry juice and so far it has been quite low. I did it gradually. This might not work for everyone though..I haven't told the doctor yet.My BP always goes up when I visit the hospital or doctors and I'm wondering if i haven't really got it at all but white coat syndrom instead.when i went into hospital to have my ankle and toes done I took my CMT book in with me and i had loads of people, doctors ect, borrowing it to read up about CMT.
