Cronic fatigue : Hi . Does anyone have... - Charcot-Marie-Too...
Cronic fatigue
I wish I had a solution for you.
My way of dealing with flu is to have an annual flu jab, and I practically never get real flu nowadays, though other winter viruses can be quite nasty enough. From my 20's to my 50's I always got it once a year and sometimes twice (presumably different viruses) , resulting in several weeks wasted - quite part from feeling rotten. I must say It never occurred to me that the totally-washed-out-ness could be CMT related, though it makes sense; but then i wasn't diagnosed until my 60's. (That diagnosis explained a lot !)
If you are not eligible for a free vaccination, consider paying for one next autumn. It could prove to be money well spent. A small number of people do have an adverse reaction to the injection, though; I am not one of them and hope you will be tolerant of it too
I live 365 days with chronic fatigue. I know how the flu knocks you out. I go to my grannys' old remedies. Drink liquids, soup, rest and do only what you can. The flu bug here in the US is terrible this year. To date 63 children have died from the flu. I took the flu jab but it seems the strain of flu going around is not protected from it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I don't get it. The only time I leave home is to go to doctors. Of course that's where all the germy people are. I wash my hands the minute I get home. My tip for doctor's office waiting room; don't touch the magazines. Heavens only knows how many germ ridden hands have handled them. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
Rest, rest and rest. Then pace yourself. No quick fix sadly.
Yesterday I saw my primary care physician for the first time since my wonderful university neurologist had diagnosed me with CMT. I told him I was doing well with physical therapy and walking much better with AFOs. My major complaint was severe fatigue. He looked at the results of blood tests I had done the previous week. He said no wonder you are tired. My calcium, iron, protein and thyroid levels are all low. He prescribed thyroid meds and told me to purchase OTC calcium & iron and to eat more meat and to be sure to tell my neurologist about these low levels. I will be seeing her in 3 weeks. I wonder if any of you all have had low levels in these areas causing such fatigue. Sometimes I don't have the energy to change TV stations with the remote control.
