Hi,

I have posted this also in a couple of other communities I but am desperate for a quick answer as my dietician hasn’t bothered getting back to me today. I hope someone can help. So at the moment I am on the reintroduction stage of the low fodmap diet . I am always constipated and unfortunately I am suffering pain at the moment which could be due to a no. Of my different issues .The only pain relief that is on offer to me that works is codeine and due to some of my conditions it’s dangerous for me to become severely constipated which is exactly what codeine does to me . So my question is can I take laxatives without compromising the diet.

Sorry I don’t know what you mean by low foodmap diet.

But, whatever it is, I agree codeine does cause constipation and you need to be relieved by taking something suitable. Personally I eat beetroot and figs to sort out my constipation but I suggest you talk to your pharmacist

I’ve just had a quick look to see what low food map diet is.

We are all different and react in different ways which is why your go doesn’t really know. Have you been referred to a dietician? Have you done on this diet because it looks good to you or has a professional suggested it? If the latter then you would need to go back to that professional and ask her or him.

If not, then I suggest you experiment with foods such as beetroot (NOT the one preserved in vinegar, get some fresh and cook it yourself) figs, kiwi fruit. Try paracetamol or nurofen for the pain.

Lactulose is very good for sorting out constipation but is very sweet so any decent pharmacist should be able to help you. Can you try different pharmacies?
