I am just so frustrated

I am so down and frustrated with how the treatment of my neck is going! I just finished 2 months of physical therapy which didn't work at all because Medicare requires it to fail before they think of surgery! I have 2 herniated discs in my neck and in constant pain! I have a pain doctor who I like except for one thing he is scared to prescribe pain meds! He will give me epidural injections in March but until then he has given me no meds to deal with this pain and it is taking me under and I don't know what to do! My depression has gotten worse and there is no end to it!

I saw an amazing neurosurgeon in Cambridge who might be able to help you. He has pioneered some neck surgery which really made a difference to me. His name is Mr Rikin Trivedi. It’s worth reading up about him.

Surely your doc cannot stop you buying paracetamol or similar over the counter?

Try doing a yoga/pilates pose called a standing forward bend. This may help extend your cervical vertebrae to help alleviate your pain. I find it's best dome after a hot bath or shower, or after using an infra red lamp. I find even a cheap lamp that I'm guessing might cost you under $25 works well for alleviating neck pain & reducing inflammation.

Acupuncture (from a qualified acupuncturist, not a physiotherapist) might help you, too. If you opt for this, ask them to needle DU 14, & put in 4 very obliquely inserted needles diagonally towards DU 14, from 2 cun to 1 cun away. That should make complete sense to them!

Hi there

I hope you have found a solution to this, I too suffer from pain in the lower back, and I found Yoga and Pilates to be really helpful, however you have to start slowly if you have never done these type of exercises before, but they will really help you over the long term, I found the below article really useful, hope you find a solution. Good luck.
