CLL and viruses
Hi Jakey16,
You may have asked about one of our most frequent discussions.
A high level summary of opinions here would be that CLL has upset / damaged our immune systems, so recovery from any infections is slow and very variable whether viral, fungal or bacterial.

Were u given any otc meds or prescriptions?
I had Covid the end of July. I didn’t have any antivirals as I had mild symptoms but I was left with a cough. The cough has remained and now I feel like I have the flu. The doctor checked my chest and says there is no sign of infection and so I have to wait it out. No antibiotics given. I finished O & V in February and my lymphocytes are still below 1. I am on antiviral and antibiotics to cover infection. I just feel awful
am I right in believing that antivirals are only effective if you start to take them within a set period of days of first symptoms?
Are you sure it remains a viral infection?
I hope you improve soon 💙
Unfortunately, very common. If it has been more than 7-10 days, you might need antibiotics. Viral infections that drag tend to turn into secondary bacterial infections. We need a longer course of antibiotics (2 weeks) and also stronger antibiotics (Co-Amoxiclav is usually very effective for chest and respiratory infections). If this becomes an issue, have yourself referred to an immunologist. There are things they can check and prescribe IVIG or prophylactics. All the best. Terrible these infections, hope you get over it.
I had what seemed like a cold for 4 weeks in June. At the end of June I saw the GP. I was given 7 days of 3x 500mg Amoxicillin. By the end of 7 days my mucus had gone from thick and green to thin and clear but 3 days later the thick green stuff had returned. I went back to the GP and was given 5 days of Doxycycline, 2x 100mg on first day then 100mg a day for 4 days. That sorted it. Also had sputum test and chest x-ray.
Co-trimoxazole (for pneumonia) while on or after V+O is given at a lower dose, 480mg daily or 960mg alternate days is common in UK NHS. Acyclovir is for shingles.
viral infections impossible to cure. I have been fighting chronic Norovirus for past two years..Bacterial infection more curable with antibiotics
i will say i have noticed since taking the covid vax (2021 first and only covid vax, won't fall for that again) and being diagnosed with CLL the rare times i do get a cold that i am fine after 3-5 days but i do get a lingering cough. have to bring that up with my GP at my physical this year. i really don't get a cold /sick more than once a year but my wife gets sick a few times a year and constantly bringing home colds from the petri dishes i call my grandkids...haha so my question to you is do you take any vitamins that can help boost your immune system?
i take on the daily, vitamin D, E, K2, zinc, quercetin which i believe help
Quick, Take some Ivermectin!
Calm Down, Calm Down Everybody.
I was just having some fun, and didn't mean any harm.
Hope you get better Jakey16,
