There has been a little bit of discussion here and there (often by me) about AHCC supplement which I have taken on and off. Here is an article about AHCC and leukemia I just came across FWIW. Published three weeks ago. This is just the abstract.
Active Hexose-Correlated Compound Shows Direct and Indirect Effects against Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
Pretty much as LeoPa said, took it for awhile, didn't see any improvement as WBC and lymphs continued to increase (i'm in W&W), and was taking it on my thoughts that increasing T cells basically good and being an alpha not beta glucan. But like LeoPa, given no noticeable benefit in the numbers, and being aware I didn't see any CLL tests about it, I thought maybe I should quit. And I did, probably 6 months or more ago, and haven't see any benefit from quitting either. FWIW, last night I took some more.
I bought it initially after diagnosis and used it a few times. It did not seem to help although I'm not sure. Then I read about all the mushroom stuff potentially being harmful and was afraid to take it anymore. It expired after 2 years and I threw it away 🙂
So expensive to throw away. But I'm with you in the should I or shouldn't I. This article tilts me back towards the should try. As I've written in this thread, I think, I had been using it, full dose, for at least a year or two and didn't see any lowering of my numbers, FWIW.
Yes, do so, tho I tend to find that docs don't really dig into this stuff and until it's in the literature they've read, they aren't even that interested. My husband's wonderful oncologist WOULD so some checking into things, which made her special and unusual, but she generally warned against mushrooms, altho I brought her articles about turkey tail and she took an interest (husband had solid tumor cancer).
