Functional doc recommends taking hyper immune chicken egg powder to bolster my immune system. I'm 70, have CLL and on w&w since 2015. Never needed treatment. Has anyone else had this recommended or currently taking it?
Thanks

I’d never heard of this but it sounds scientifically unverified and unsubstantiated.
‘Hyperimmune egg is an egg from a hen that has been vaccinated against certain infectious diseases. The hen makes antibodies against these diseases. These antibodies pass into the hen's eggs. People remove the antibodies from the egg yolks and use them as medicine.
Hyperimmune egg is used for cystic fibrosis, a digestive tract infection that can lead to ulcers (Helicobacter pylori or H. pylori), diarrhea caused by rotavirus, and other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.’
‘Antibodies contained in hyperimmune egg are thought to stimulate the immune system and help the body fight disease.’
However, the diseases mentioned do not include cancer of the immune system itself that could potentially suffer from the ‘stimulation’.
In truth, I’m stunned to see that there’s such in depth research into this subject which is incredibly complex as this study illustrates.
‘The mechanisms of B-cell diversification differ greatly between aves and mammals, but both produce B cells and antibodies capable of supporting an effective immune response. To see how differences in the generation of diversity might affect overall repertoire diversity, we have compared the diversity characteristics of immunoglobulin genes from domestic chickens to those from humans.’

Hi toden,
-
Many newly diagnosed ask similar questions, and in most cases our CLL expert doctors do not recommend stimulating the immune system since it may increase the production of more CLL cells.

"Functional medicine is a form of alternative medicine that encompasses a number of unproven and disproven methods and treatments. Its proponents claim that it focuses on the "root causes" of diseases based on interactions between the environment and the gastrointestinal, endocrine, and immune systems to develop "individualized treatment plans." It has been described as pseudoscience, quackery, and at its essence a rebranding of complementary and alternative medicine. "
