Hi, I have a strange situation that has happened 3 times since May. I am sick, with chills, fever, headache, general achiness, sore throat, fatigue… fever goes up to about 101..
All 3 times, I went for a long walk on a very windy breezy day when there was a lot of pollen flying around. I was sick within 2 hours each time! I am allergic to ragweed and other weeds, but I haven’t experienced this before and as an adult, I barely usually feel my allergies.
Can this be a new thing for my body from CLL or post treatment?
Does anyone else have this happen?
It’s perplexing. And I hate missing work for random fevers (I know, that one is minor, but it’s been 6 days this year.)
Dr Lamanna is aware of it and I went to local Dr to be seen and get Covid swab.
Thank you,
NW

Before having CLL, I used to routinely get fevers from ragweed/allergies. I work at a college and it would happen every fall. I would become sick with allergies for a week or more and then it would turn into a fever and I'd be ill with an upper respiratory infection, sometimes needing antibiotics. This has not happened since I went on 2 allergy meds about a decade ago- Singulair & Zyrtec.
Wow, interesting, Emily! And that’s even before CLL. The dr I went to yesterday recommended an antihistamine until the end of September. After reading your response, I will definitely do that.
NW, I think that I was leading up to CLL for over a decade as I had such frequent upper respiratory illnesses. I know there's no proof for that but in my gut I feel this to be true.
Also the second I start to have any type of sinus or chest congestion, I use my inhalers like crazy (asthma) and take extra strength Mucinex (guafenisen only) twice per day.
I hear you on the sick days. I have to keep working or our quality of life will plummet. My CLL plan is to go to work while sick, unless I am extremely ill. Most days I can hide in my office. I can get more rest in my office than at home. Did this yesterday with at 102 fever from covid booster.
Thank you Emily. I read certain posts and think it’s not just me & my weird body again! It’s hard to decipher at times is this allergies, sinusitis or an upper respiratory infection, all of which can play havoc with my asthma. The SLL has made the allergies worse so I take antihistamines daily at the start of the season, then hit my inhalers hard at the first sign of symptoms. Added a nasal steroid inhaler this year as well. I have never tested positive for Covid, but I hate putting the swab up my nose! I’ve never heard of Singulair, so I’ll definitely check that one out.
I have the same weird experience. After allergic exposure, I feel like I’m coming down with the flu. So many times I have been fooled, taking COVID tests etc., and still am after 1.5 yrs of this happening. It usually passes by next day but sometimes takes longer. I never had allergies prior to CLL.
I hope you make out ok. I will likely be right behind you as I have recently ended 3.5 yrs isolating and have returned to working at a busy campus. My freedom from COVID thus far has not come without consequences as I noticed I have lost some social abilities. Teams and Zoom are just not the same as live interactions.
Follow up to my post - turns out this was no allergy. I have Covid!
I took my first trip in 3 1/2 years, to a retreat center in the next state. I wore a mask indoors and ate all my meals outdoors. It stinks but I think I’m relieved to be out in the world again.
I am sorry you were exposed and now have to suffer through Covid. This last four years have been very hard and eerie, especially for those of us with reduced immunity.
