David went to the GP yesterday morning with a very angry inflamed lymph node on his neck. This has been building in pain for the last month. He could bear it no longer.
He was referred to our local hospital in Gloucester where we waited in Emergency Day care for 6 hours. He was then given morphine and antibiotics to reduce the pain and inflammation.
We are off to Birmingham QE tomorrow to discuss long term treatment for his CLL. We’ve had to cancel our holiday in the Lake District due on Saturday.
It’s been a very distressing week!
Has anyone else had infected lymph nodes? Is this rare with CLL? Will they recur!
Kind Regards
Anne

Hi Anne. I can hear the distress in your words because it’s so hard to watch our loved ones suffering and David will be equally sad about the holiday having to be cancelled. Together with unrelenting pain and a 6 hour wait in A&E, it’s a wretched time for you just now.
I had significant lymphadenopathy before I started treatment and some of the swollen nodes were uncomfortable but never really painful as in your husband’s case. Thankfully this level of node pain doesn’t seem to be as common or reported on here.
I’m glad he’s having a more holistic CLL assessment tomorrow. Sounds like Lymphadenitis which is an infection in the lymph nodes. Usually it’s connected to either a localised or generalised infection somewhere in the body so good he now has antibiotics. I don’t know your husband’s CLL history but I expect you’ll feel relieved he’s seeing his haematologist to assess the situation.
Best wishes and hope tomorrow brings answers and he’s pain free soon. Tough on both of you and I know only too well what hours and hours in A&E with your husband feels like!
I was diagnosed with an infected lymph node once - lymphadenitis. It was really painful but the antibiotics worked really quickly for me, also got an antibiotics cream as it happened due to a infected cut in the area (at least that was my understanding). So sorry he is going through this, I hate the unexpected turns, I'm sure we have all been there. I almost do not plan anything past one week these days, really...it causes too much disappointment.
Hope the antibiotics kick in soon and he gets better.
