I have had CLL for 15 years and I have just developed a case of neutropenia. My number is 5.1, but the normal maximum is supposedly 4.5, are my levels dangerous? Any information would be gratefully received.

Neutropenia
Angela, I don't think that a neutrophil level of 5.1 is dangerous. It may reflect an infection or some other stress on your body. Even exercise can raise neutrophils causing neutrophilia. Take a look at this Patient Power discussion of high and low neutrophils: patientpower.info/what-do-h...
Hi Angela,
The reference range for neutrophils is around 2.0 to 7.5, depending on your test laboratory.
So would you please either repeat the full line of your neutrophil test result or attach a photo?
Provided your neutrophil count is above 1.5, CLL specialists would consider your risk of infection still acceptable.

At face value this number seems fine. Typically there is no significant concern unless they are Less than 1.0
do you know the low end of normal from your lab
good luck, and may God bless you

Neutropenia would suggest a LOW Neutrophil count. Like less than 1.5
Neutrophils are first responders in infections. Their number will fluctuate continuously. 5.1 would not indicate anything significant on its own. Was this a routine blood test?
Please give some more detail of your results and status. Are you on treatment?
