Welcome to our community Robert!

Do you have type 2 diabetes or are you interested in Metformin's purported anti-cancer properties? New evidence for the latter is less promising.

Unless you need Metformin for diabetes Robert, you need to be aware of it’s possible gastric side effects which can be exceedingly unpleasant! In the diabetes community it’s known as ‘metfartin’ for good reason! 😉

Metformin has never had a bad effect on my stomach. We tried to have my wife use it, but she almost missed going to work 2-3 times.

We tried all kinds of schemes and found that only the following scheme worked well: cake, metformin, cheesecake, cake, metformin, cheesecake. It turned out that this treatment was quite expensive (not because of the metformin) and that's why we stopped it.

My wife's endocrinologist has been suggesting metaformin to my non CLL wife due to her "pre-diabetes" high glucose and a family history of diabetes. My borderline underweight regular exercising wife read the side effects and like Newdawn decided against it. -

As AussieNeil suggests, there is very thin evidence of anti-cancer benefits, and like many of the treatments proposed in social media, the treatment many be far worse than no intervention in CLL Watch & Wait.

You may want to focus on infection prevention and adapting to being immune compromised- e.g. getting all your vaccinations up to date and avoiding bacterial, viral and fungal infections. They can be more deadly than CLL for us.

Keto fixes pre diabetes quickly.

Yeah I read the book protein power by Dr eades. And the irony is I quit eating carbs and my triglycerides went down from 365 to 82 but, this is when I started getting sick and my white cell counts are going up etc. So I fixed one problem because they can't get my triglycerides down for years and the doctors didn't understand that cutting carbs out is how I did it.

You need to replace carbs with fats, not proteins. I haven't read that book. Too many proteins overload the kidneys and get converted into sugar anyways through gluconeogenesis

in reply to LeoPa

No the protein power book only suggest what we what every person needs protein wise and cutting carbs to 25 g or less a day to take care of the insulin resistance and allow our insulin receptors to recover. Since they become known from our Western carb infested diet. Like I said in other posts the irony is I got my triglycerides down from 365 to 82 by cutting carbs, and that's when I started getting sick from the leukemia. Go figure... And yes they talk about how we need fat in our diet big time and that fat basically is benign unless it's consumed in the presence of carbohydrate.

And unless it's vegetable based polyunsaturated fat. Saturated and monounsaturated are okay.

After being diagnosed at a hospital, I then met with my doctor and went down the list of vaccinations. I suggested pneumonia, shingles, and hepatitis b. We did all of the above and I regularly get a flu shot every year anyway. I guess the reality of everything gets me every once in awhile.

I'm not sure why you want metformin. Are you type 2 diabetic?

One thing I and many others will tell you is that metformin can make you feel very ill.

in reply to CLL23

They've done clinical trials on metformin and it's efficacy for CLL, that's why I was interested in taking it etc.
