obinutuzumab to start soon! What all to expect

my husband is on acalaibrutinib- day 6 and his schedule for obinutuzumab is planned next week.. it’s an altogether new combination we will be taking.

Doctor plans to give the first dose in the ICU and thereafter with normal hospital admission..Please share your experiences to ease the anxiety and journey..

I am currently on 2nd cycle of Obinutuzumab added to Acalabrutinib. My own situation is different as I started the O 18 months after starting Acalabrutinib. This was due to Covid and the increased risk of infection. There is no strict time limit to add the O (so long as the A is still working) and my own consultant usually starts the O after 3-6 months. Your husband is starting his early which I assume his consultant feels is best. I have been very lucky and had no adverse reactions at all. The first few infusions take a long time (all day) as they give it to you very slowly to limit the chance of a reaction . They get much quicker from cycle 2. My ‘tumour burden’ was very low (bloods normal) when I started the O as the Acalabrutinib had brought it right down which helped in terms of possible reactions, but rest assured the team who look after your husband will be watching him carefully.
