I had similar problems after Chemo along with eye infections. Eventually my consultants put me on long term Antibiotics which cured the problem completely. By the way, previously I was using Antibiotic aye drops every 2 to three weeks, and they did suggest an operation. However, the success rate of the op was virtually zero in the long term, and they decided against it in favour of Antibiotics.
If you can, perhaps try a low or no dairy diet. Just for a couple of weeks - I do it every few weeks for a few days, and the snot settles down. My GP says "there is no evidence that diary causes sinus congestion" I told there were generations of grannies who passed this down to their daughters and granddaughters. I also use Sterimar a couple of times a day.
And I also use Sterimar and Avamys and Azithromycinon on prescription. If I feel very ‘bunged up’ I do an old fashioned steam with towel over head and a bowl of hot water with a few drops of tea tree and olbas oil.
Whenever I start getting frequent sinus infections, it’s usually a sign that my immunoglobulin levels are low and I need an IV infusion of IgG. You might ask your CLL doc to order a test of your immunoglobulin levels. Some CLL patients get monthly infusions but I seem to do well with about 2 infusions per year. Good luck!
Oh my goodness! Have you discussed this w/your oncologist? I took Imbruvica/Ibrutinib for a year. It FAILED to do the job for me! However, it's worth mentioning that the instructions which I received before starting that medication included the need to be on the lookout for any sign(s) of INFECTION!
While on that medication, your resistance to infection is apparently reduced. Infection can be a warning sign to DISCONTINUE the treatment until the infection has cleared, only to be restarted when the oncologist gives the okay to resume treatment.
I had the misfortune of beginning work on some dental implants around the same time I was starting the Imbruvica. Shortly after the dental work was started, I began to have excessive pain. I'd developed infection in my gum on the one side, which quickly moved to the other side. I had to go through multiple rounds of several types of antibiotics before the right one was found. One of the implants failed & a section of destroyed bone had to be cut out! During the time I was on the antibiotics it was necessary to discontinue the Imbruvica. Once the infection fully cleared, I restarted the Imbruvica.
If you shared the sinus issue w/your oncologist, it's surprising (s)he didn't tell you to discontinue the Imbruvica. Was (s)he included in the decision to have the sinus surgery? Did you continue taking the medication throughout the surgery & recuperation period? This sounds questionable to me, given my previous experience! Perhaps it's time to contact the supplier of your medication for clarification on its continued use during an infection. If they discourage use during an infection, it might be wise to revisit the issue w/your oncologist.
Best of luck to you! I hope the medication does the trick for you! 🙏🙋
