Covid antibodies

I got back my test result with 1036 AU/ml. Cut-off is 50, so this is clear positiv. Test was done by CMIA Abott SARS-Covid-2 IgG II Quant Assay and it was mentioned that there are nutralising antibodies in the neutralisation test.

I am extremly surprised and happy as needing IVIG and having had O+V the probability of a positive result was rather low.

But does it mean that I am now protected against Covid and can rely on the clearly positive result?

Sorry if this topic was already discussed.

Best regards

Reinhard

That is a good positive result and, as you suggest, somewhat surprising perhaps in view of your Obintuzumab treatment.

I wonder how much of the antibody is from your IVIG infusions? Not even sure there is any way of knowing that, just thinking out loud really.

Either way a great result but please stay careful.

Jackie much to my surprise my Consultant though I would be getting antibodies from IVIG ( Privagen ) I didn’t question that except to say I thought that early days but keeping fingers crossed.

Good news Reinhard.

Colette, I did the blood test 5 weeks after IVIg. So most of the Ig were probably lost at this time, as at my last test Ig were extremly low even after 3 weeks. Consequently I get double dose in future.

I also thought that covid antibodies could be from Ivig but I was informed that it will take probably more than another year, that we get a substantial quantity in course of Ivig.

I will stay hopeful and keep my fingers crossed, but my mask stays on.

Jackie, so you think despite the good result I have to be careful, not rely on these antibodies?

I would still be cautious because of the new variants that seem to be popping up as I t’s not always clear initially how well protected we are against them with the current vaccines. However, I would be very happy with your result 😊

Sadly the results from research into the effectiveness of convalescent plasma have been disappointing so presumably we can perhaps infer that IVIG isn’t offering the level of protection and acquired immunity that was hoped (in terms of clinical benefit to Covid patients). These are the results from the PLACID trial;

Your result looks very promising Reinhard and clearly you’ve benefitted from the vaccinations. I no longer receive IVIG but part of me feels there must be some level of transmitted antibody response from the thousands of donors used.

Reinhard your result is not that surprising. Yes you were treated with a CD20 antibody, but that was 2-3 years ago? According to the Israeli study the majority of CLL patients who were either untreated, or treated and in remission more than 1 year, developed antibodies to the Pfizer vaccine ashpublications.org/blood/a...

Thanks for sharing your results, and congratulations.
