Food Parcels

Got my first food parcel today. I was having a lie in and got rudely woken up LOL. No idea what`s in it as I`ve not opened it yet. Wiped it down and then left it for a day or so.

Anyone else had one? UK this is for vulnerable folk that are registered with government

Hi not had one but I am registered. Sounds like you may have a treat in store. Hope what’s in it is to your liking.

I've had two food packages now. Second arrived this morning. Both have contained much the same each delivery Pasta, 2 jars tomato pasta sauce, 1 loaf sliced bread, 1 bag of carrots, 1 bag of potatoes, 2 tins heinz beans, 3 tins heinz tomato soup 🤢 1 mornflake or Quaker porridge oats golden syrup box, 2 small or 1 big tin/s peaches, 1 tin pork, 1 tin tuna, 1 box or packet of pasta, 1 men's lynx shower gel, 2 tiny or 1 travel size bar of soap, 2 packets uncle Ben's rice, two 1 litre cartons long life milk, 1 packet of golden delicious or braeburn apples, 1 net of mandarins, 1 food bag knotted fullof hotel size coffee tubes/sachets & sealed single packet tea bags, 1 tin mushy peas. 2 single toilet rolls. Extra this time was a packet of 6 mini bags of Maryland cookies. I was asked over phone what I wanted in package. Message clearly didn't get through, as I'm an extremely fussy eater. Only things of use to me are the pasta, beans, loaf & toiletries. The rest is given to my parents who are looking after my child as I'm in shielding at very high risk. Helps them feed my child & themselves.

I’ve had two but they’ve not sent me one since. Not sure why. It’s primarily tins, some vegetables and a box of pasta plus 2 toilet rolls. Very useful and sent to those on the shielding list who registered vulnerable.

Hi,

I received one last week - a complete surprise and I was very impressed.

It was all branded store cupboard items with some fresh fruit and veg.

Stay safe,

Louise

I was surprised to receive one yesterday, though don't really need it as we have just got a delivery slot with Asda and also use local shops. Amazed at the amount of groceries in the box and all useful stuff (apart from the Lynx shower gel!) Gave most of it to my daughter as my son in law has just been made redundant.

Hope you like what's in yours nanasu.

Yes, nanasu, our first parcel came today, too. Totally unexpected and do feel a bit guilty as we have been getting fairly regular shopping slots. There is an option to hand the parcel back to the delivery driver for passing on to another needy person, which is something we'll probably do, providing we can still get our priority delivery slots.

The enclosed note from UK Government states it contains basic needs for a week, but not sure about that. Even so, the quality of the items is good, mostly branded, Warburtons, Heinz, Mcvities, Dolmio, etc.

Basically what we received:

Large white sliced loaf, large pack of digestive biscuits, 3 x tins of soup, 2 x tins of beans with sausages, 1 x tin of cocktail sausages, 1 x tin of mandarin segments, 2 x jars of pasta sauce, large bag of pasta, tin of tuna, 2 x cartons of long life milk, pack of apples, large bag of potatoes, bag of fresh carrots, packet of Ready Brek, pack of fresh mandarins, 1 x tin of marrowfat peas, 10 x sachets of coffee, 10 x individual teabags, 1 x bar of Dove soap, 1 x bottle of hand/face/hair wash, 2 x toilet rolls.

No doubt some useful items for those not able to get to the shops.

Like you, all wiped down and fresh items left in our 'decontamination room'.......cupboard under the stairs!

Stay safe.

Davy.

I opted to donate money to the Trussel Trust (buys food for food banks) when I got my much needed box

When I registered they asked me if I had someone to shop for me, which I do. Maybe this is why I have not received anything?

Hi Anne. That’s right you won’t get a box if you said you don’t need help with shopping. If you do want to get a box you can register again and answer the question to say you do need help. You should then receive a box. Likewise, if you want to stop receiving a box, register again and say you don’t need help.

Correct I believe.

I think so, Ann. The enclosed letter states that if you no longer require the food parcel then return to the GOV.UK website, select 'Yes' to the question "Do you have a way of getting essential supplies delivered at the moment?" and re-register.

I started receiving food parcels soon after registering on gov.uk. Yes it's generous and it's stuff one could live on, but I hadn't requested them and don't want them. After #1 I tried to cancel by re-registering - then along came #2 and #3. I phoned the dispatch depot and was told the only way to cancel is to refuse delivery, so then it's down to the driver to initiate cancellation. I'll leave a note, signed and dated.

Via my daughter all three parcels have gone to a food bank.

It does appear complicated.

I ticked I needed help with food because I was having problems with online deliveries. First box appeared when I was expecting a veg box and the second appeared when I was asleep, so no chance to say no thanks. There was a note inside saying if I didn’t want to reregister. I then had two calls from the local council asking if I needed a food box,I said I had already had two and no thank you. Yesterday morning another appeared and I asked him to take it away. He was helpful and said the cancellation would take about a week. I hope others on here are getting theirs.

I didn’t cancel but they didn’t send one anyway last week. At 6.45am this morning a parcel was left on the step and in honesty I was grateful for the bread, pasta, sauce and biscuits. My grocery delivery from Morrisons only sent a tiny loaf as a substitute big enough for a lone person and no pasta so gratefully received 😊
