The key to realistic planning in times of crises is to balance social and personal responsibility. And now that we’re in a state of emergency, the best we can do in the time of COVID-19 is to do what it takes, to the best of our ability, to flatten the curve.
This means taking protective and preventative measures so that the number of cases are spread out over time so our healthcare system more realistically manage those who are sick and need help.
And the best measures we can take? Self-quarantine. If that’s not immediately realistic, then extreme social distancing. We still have time to do our best to take care of ourselves and each other, symptomatic or not, as feeling ill isn’t a sign contagion. In this time, it’s often a delayed sign of one.
Here’s a possible checklist to being prepared for a lockdown, voluntary or not.
there have been mixed messages about the time the virus stays active on various materials--Dr. Fouchi in US has not agreed with the longer times stated--he suggests minutes to maybe an hour or two---not precise, but then, these points are being established by this experience and the main point is---clean off surfaces and wash hands often and thoroughly.
What I have begun to wonder about in connection to this are the shopping carts in large indoor corrals at the superstores where there is a whoosh of fresh air from doors opening or overhead heaters that dislodge micro-organisms from handles back into the air again. I relate this to those restroom forced air hand driers. Maybe I am over thinking this?
Lexie, while being airborne may be likely, the basic information to date is that it is the human to human transmission and service to human is what is carrying this virus at this time. Dr. Fouci (US) has said it is not airborne in the way you describe.
I can only say what I value as an expert's opinion.
I hope this helps and that can be something you can lay to rest while you maintain vigilance with the washing and practice safe-distancing while staying home as much as possible. (Do try to get out for a walk to keep from the stir-crazies, though!
Thanks, that helps. I've been outside most of the afternoon trimming thorny blackberries. I honestly cannot stand to listen to our president's political rallies masquerading as public information addresses so no idea what that doctor recommended.
