I have a dental appt for a check up next week. Thinking of cancelling and remaking for about 4 weeks time.

Thoughts please

It it was me then I would totally cancel unless I had an infection in my mouth needing draining. Its important to ensure our dental care prevents us having festering infections etc. But the risk of such intimate contact is probably too high for most people right now even those without CLL.

Absolutely sensible!

I agree with Adrian; rinsing with salt solution is recommended by my dentist.

Depends on what ur getting done and where you live. My dentist still treating. May not be able to go in 4 weeks. It's just beginning in the USA.

I have eye appt next week. As long as my doc is seeing patients, I will go. Probably cleaner/safer than ever. I have been in stores etc so my appts are important too. 💕

I have a check up due next week too but will probably delay for a few months. My husband’s dentist told him he’s concerned that people will neglect their dental care over this period.

Interestingly, I know my dentist is in the higher risk group who probably should be isolating!

massachusetts dentists have been told to close for next 3 weeks. you have to call ours between 9-12 each day to see if they will bring you in for emergency service. cleaning would be put off

Good idea! I cancelled my dental check up just this week. The office is cancelling all mouth work immediately.

In Vancouver, BC, there was a 15,000 person dental conference....Already 4 people that attended have tested positive. That was last week. Just too risky! I’ll try again in May.

Dental offices are now closed in BC except for dental emergencies due to that conference. Extra dental hygiene needed by all now.

The principle to follow regarding professional and personal contact with medical personnel: Avoid contact with medical personnel UNLESS it's an emergency. They'll understand and thank you for it.

* A routine check-up can be deferred ~ just keep up your flossing routine :)

I have one also, but will reschedule for later this year.

Definitely cancel if it’s a routine check up - I have hygienist & check up on the same day on 5th April that I’ll rebook - as I’ve no issues it can easily be rescheduled for after the three months deadline 🙂

We postponed our dental check ups for 3 months.

If I can’t go out for a coffee (🙁), I’m certainly not going to the dentist! 😂

I believe advice is to go out to Dentists that they can stay open to treat patients.

The big caveat is they are not to use any equipment that produces an aerosol - i. e. High Speed drill, sonic cleaners, water jet polishers.

This will eliminate a vast array of treatments in my opinion, basically antibiotics (not treatment) or extraction.

It would only take one Covid-19 patient to have been drilled for aerosol potentially to infect entire room. Normal precautions (cleaning between patients) would markedly reduce risk, but as there is evidence of Covid-19 being active after 72 hours on plastic(at reduced levels), it is better to try stop spread.

To go or to NOT go? One by one everything that can be shut down has been here (Southern California). I want my dentist available if I have an emergency, so I hope people will not ignore the isolation rules. It will help keep him available.

My thanks to everyone for your input. I`ve decided to postpone and remake the appt for about 6 weeks time and see how things are then.

I would definitely cancel unless it is an emergency

The Virginia Dental Association recommends putting off routine dental exams and cleanings at least until March 31, 2020.

I had to go to dentist yesterday as emergency. I’ve had two painful extractions which are taken a very long time to heal.

The Goverment in the U.K. have now issued new guidelines for dentists meaning there are restrictions now on what they can do. No water instruments used. I’m told they won’t do fillings or cleaning.

It’s really worrying for us with dental issues.
