Help with Sore Throat for CLL Patient
A warm salt water gargle several times a day has always been the first "go to" of every ENT I have seen over the years. It's good to get input from your doctor regarding whether the throat or larynx are infected and antibiotics needed.
I have just recovered from a horrendous sore throat / tonsils. Fortunately I was given some SOS antibiotics a couple of years ago which were still 'in date's. I started taking these and ( after hardly being able to swallow/speak and generally feeling grotty) recovered after about a week. So yes - a call to your doctor/nurse would be needed. Hope you feel better soon.
Gargle with warm salt water and spit it out. Also tell your doctor you have a sore throat so they can test for Strep throat.
120940, Be sure to drink the fluids recommended which should help keep your throat moist as well as do the deed of keeping the kidneys happy.
The following is not to scare you, but to remind you that a weakened immune system means a cold for you can be way more than a cold before you know it.
Call your Dr./RN to let them know you have a sore throat and ask what they recommend you do. Keep a record of your temperature, if you get over 100.2 get to the emergency room and let them know you have an immune deficiency and are a cancer patient.
Hello 120940
People some times feel like they are just a number. Seriously I had bad sore throat for couple of weeks. I have been gargling with one part salt to 2 parts baking soda. That helped somewhat, but my wife checked me out and said I had thrush, sure enough I did have. It causes a burning/tingling feeling in mouth when every you eat or drink something acidic. Doctor proscribed a mouth wash called nyastatin. Worked great, was over thrush in 2-3 days. Blessings.
My husband uses saltwater gargle
Thanks for the advice. He is taking antibiotics and gargling with a mouthwash that has no alcohol. He will see his nurse on Monday. His temperature is 99.2.
