CLL with diabetes and bells palsy

Hello, well I have had had CLL for four years,my white count cell has gone from 18-43 back to 18. A few months ago I came down with Bells Palsy and have problems eating. I have lost about 30 pounds from about 220 to 185. The Bells has affected my mouth and it’s hard to and now it looks I have developed very bad acid reflux. I also have diabetes, do you think that both the diabetes and the CLL have help cause this. The doctor had me take another Round of blood work tests and he wants to do a full CT scan of my stomach area. I am very stressed. Anyone out there have multiple medical issues when you have CLL? Do you think all these issues has been the reason my white blood count has gone down?

Hi Blairzy, I also have had Bells Palsy. I got it following a throat infection that my GP did not treat ( I should have insisted on antibiotics). I was treated with a week's course of steroids which cleared the facial problems quickly but my taste was badly affected, for 5 weeks I could not eat as everything tasted so foul it made me gag. So I survived on protein drinks. My taste came back sufficiently that I can now eat but my taste is not correct and I get little pleasure from eating, that is for the past 7 months. My consultant told me my taste may never return to normal as the nerve could be permanently damaged. I hope you recover ok.

Hi blairzy,

Because it tends to be older people who have CLL, it's not uncommon to have other illnesses alongside, with some diagnosed before or after the CLL diagnosis. Like many other things, it's it's hard to know cause and effect for definite.

Your wbc will go up and down so it's the trend that's important but it's good news that it appears pretty indolent at the moment.

In that context the important thing is to keep as well as you can by taking good care of your yourself. That doesn't mean marathons or intense gym sessions but eat well, a balanced fresh food diet, keep your weight down (or up) and exercise as you are able to.

I hope you're feeling better soon,

Jackie

Getting your blood sugar to normal numbers as often as possible and as long as possible will go far in helping you feel better in the moment and also in the future. Even if your doctor says you are "ok" and even if you think you have no symptoms from your diabetes, better is better! Try to avoid all carbs that do not come with a good dose of nutrition. Only eat when hungry. Develop a habit of frequent movement. Stay hydrated. Try your best to sleep well and destress. All of these things affect our blood sugar and our long term health.

Hi there, I had bell's palsy when I was 18 (i'm now 45). At the time the doctor told me it could be caused by a viral infection. It often happens when there is a change of licmate (spring or automn). However, I have read Bell's palsy is more common with people who also have diabetes. So if it's a viral thing, CLL will not help. I hope you will not have to much aftermaths.

Dear Blairzy,. Yes I have had many other diseases since I was diagnosed. Get use to calling your doctor's. Since I was diagnosed I have had my Thyroid removed, hysterectomy, shingles, broken bones, squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, sinus surgery. And just had both my knees replaced but I don't think that had anything to do with CLL.
