I've had CLL with no treatment for 11 years but recently broke my collarbone and xray and CT scan revealed multiple myeloma. Treatment for myeloma started 4 days ago and the plan is to have stem cell transplant in 3-4 months. Anyone in the same boat and could stem cell transplant also help the CLL.

CLL and Myeloma anyone?
I’m sorry to hear about this development which is very rare. Both are treatable but, as yet, incurable clonal B cell neoplasms.
Transplant (autograft) in myeloma is a very successful treatment and I have a friend who has just had her second one using stem cells harvested at the time of the first one. Obviously it’s not without the usual risks of infection due to severe neutropenia in the immediate post transplant period and you must be careful with your diet etc
I’ve personally never seen a patient with concomitant CLL and myeloma but instinctively it would seem that the treatment of chemo and transplant for the myeloma should treat the CLL too.
Interestingly there is some work and clinical trials looking at Ibrutinib treatment (with or without lenalidomide or pomalidomide, which are both related to thalidomide) in relapsed or refractory myeloma.
I wish you all the very best. Please keep us updated.
