Bone marrow test

The doctor received my husband's ct scan results and said that spleen is fine, some lymph nodes are enlarged but he still is not sure what is causing the anemia. Therefore, we are going for a bone marrow test next week. My husband is very upset. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Thank you. Nurgul

It's probably the worst time now feeling like a guinea pig constantly going back and forwards being tested for this and that and at the same time living in fear, we've all been there but just let your husband know things will soon be better.

I had to go thru the same thing last year when I was diagnosed, all you want to do is get away from it all. I went for an immediate blood transfusion the day I was diagnosed and told I needed treatment immediately, I didn't even have time to digest what cll was or what was happening, I had a bone marrow just before I started treatment, this is important as will give his specialist a better idea of what's going on. Hopefully like me his anaemia is being caused by his Cll crowding his marrow which is just the illness progressing and they will then determine the best treatment options.

I had a bone marrow biopsy a couple of months ago. I was very anxious about it in advance, but it turned out to be no big deal at all. No real pain at any point. The area was sore the next day, but not seriously so. In my case they used a local anesthetic, lidocaine (what dentists use to numb you). They remove a small amount of marrow with a syringe and a tiny core of bone from the back of your pelvis (the iliac crest) in most cases. But all I felt was pressure and a dull ache when the lidocaine was pushed in to numb it. It was over quite quickly and I could have driven myself home (but I had a ride waiting). Good luck!

That is good his spleen is fine. I have enlarged lymph nodes and I am on Wait & Watch for my CLL/SLL

Hello there Nurgul, did he have a high white cell count? I just had a bone marrow biopsy a couple of weeks ago. No problem, and I am kind of a scardy cat. I held my husband's hands to squeeze but it was over in a jiffy... Just pressure and a little poke. Had your husband been seen by a hemotologist?

I was 50 when diagnosed with stage 4 SSL /CLL and all of my lymphnods were swollen, I felt like I had the flu all of the time. It was awful. I just walked in the hospital and insisted I was dying. Cat scan showed all of the nodes swollen, the referred be to ENT DR, I thought to get my tonsils out, but instead to take a out a lymphnode. That confirmed my diagnosis. I went to an oncologist/hemotologist. They tested blood and got me on a chemo regiment FOR for 6 months. Then healing sets in. CLL is a chronic nuisance... So after the diagnosis, no need to panic or look at old statistics. The fact of the matter is there were more advancements in CLL in 2015 then any other cancer and today it's even better. Better drugs better results, but chronic.
