Health Check: what you need to know about mucus and phlegm

With winter comes an increased risk of respiratory infections when we begin to wonder what the colour of our mucus is telling us about the severity of our infection. So here's a timely article from David King, Senior Lecturer at The University of Queensland (where summer has just arrived), with all you need to know about mucus and phlegm:

If you do succumb to a respiratory infection, don't hesitate to get checked out by your doctor, particularly if you begin running a high infection. You don't want a visit from one of these funereal cockatoos, captured here enjoying a pine cone.

Interesting article - thanks Neil. It was specially relevant to me this morning as I coughed up thick green phlegm/mucus for the third day in a row... I decided its ghastly appearance was not as relevant to my condition as I'd previously thought - specially as in myself I'm actually feeling a lot better this morning. (If I was having chemo at the moment, it would be a different matter though).

Paula (recovering from a nasty cold/sore throat/cough).
