I was in Tesco today and bought some Flora Pro Activ and noticed a poster saying I could have a free cholesterol check at the pharmacy on production of the receipt. My previous total cholesterol figure in Augsut was 5.6, but the finger prick test today showed it to be 4.38. Before I get too carried away, how accurate are these tests?

My hunch is, not very. Both of your readings are absolutely OK anyway.

If you have any doubts ask your GP for a blood test and get a more accurate count with all the details of LDL and HDL and also Triglicerides to give you more info. I would be more than happy to have your figures though!!!!
Hi, Ive done boots one-shot tests and the readings are fairly acurate. The test costs £12 and you basically drip a blob of blood onto a circled area, wait exactly 3 minutes, then compare the colour of the blood stain with a chart to work out your level.
Ive paid for a Tesco test and the results on thier digital machine came back with 'HI'....They didnt know what that ment,as they couldnt give me an idea of what the high limit of the machine was. On doing a bit of research on the machine online , i think the limit is 7.0.
Both tests i believe only test for total cholesteol.I dont think there is a high street test you can get that will give a more detailed reading???
