A vascular consultant told my late father not to take clopidogrel (a statin) with sim a statin for more than a year as it causes muscle pain

Clopidogrel is not a statin, it’s a blood thinner.

Thank you! So it is...apologies. We weren't told that at the time. It was alluded it was similar to simvastatin and I didn't question it at the time

You’re right that most people don’t take Clopidogrel for more than a year after having stents inserted though, although it can be prescribed for longer for people at risk of stroke (like me!).

My partner took a statin and developed stomach pains, dr didn’t know what it was, sent him for a ct scan but nothing was found. Drs upped the dose of the statins and the pain got worse. He stopped taking the statin and the pain went away, for the average of 10 days extra life it’s just not worth it.

They did for me also! Also you can actually lower your Chloresterol with Diet and Exercise.

Yes they most certainly do and I think people with arthritis seem to get hit with the muscle pains and joint pain much faster then someone without arthritis.

That's why I don't take them arm and leg pains tried all 3 all did the same. I had a heart attack 11 years ago my cholesterol was 3.5. I can't take them

I also tried 3 different ones 2 made walking more difficult and one caused me to bleed which made me anemic.

I ached for a little while, but no worse than if I'd taken exercise; I did think it was a pity they didn't have the same effect on my metabolism. But I adjusted and am fine now.

I was having pain in my knee for many years. A change of Drs and I found out it was the statins causing the problem. He reduced my dosage to 5mg Crestor and the pain eventually lessened. A couple of years later, and another change of Drs (due to Drs leaving clinic) determined that a change of statins was in order. I went along with 3 more changes and an increase of dosage, up to 20 mg. I could not walk. I was in pain. I have no doubt that the Statins were the issue. I have not taken Statins for 4 years. Calcium score was 0! I can run and walk freely without pain. My Cholesterol is 7 and I am about to begin the cycle again. I really do not want to take statins again.

Me too, such pain in the legs and butt and only second day! If this is the solution for an extra 10days of living, I think I will carry on without and be my normal jet about self!

Your pain in "pain in the legs and butt",I am looking for details, is in the back of the thigh, below the knew, butt, is it when your sitting down or standing up or sitting in a car.

I had pain when sitting is a car, computer chair. I use a ring it helps some time. Air travel on long flights, 1/2 way through the flight I have to use a ring to sit on it to help with the pain .

I do not take statin any more but the pain is still there?

Take care.

Thanks, but the pain was with me all the time. I noted that I was started ON 40mg!! and note with other users on much less a mg. It was my Colestral at 8 that sparked all this. I'm much better just being sensible and take a walk a day. And keep down the fat and sugar, I'm not overweight for my age and height. I feel is scare mongering and living alone wonder what happens next.
