It does not state it. As a general rule though you only find cholesterol in animal products, so if you eat tonnes of meat and dairy products and are a couch potato you are more likely to have high cholesterol. My husband recently was found to have high cholesterol (7.4) and was routinely put on statins. It made him feel awful so I said it’s high but not sky high, we should be able to lower it with lifestyle changes. He ate a lot of cheese, meat and drank a fair amount of beer while not exercising much, so we reversed all that and when it was checked a month later it was 5.1. As his blood pressure was also too high we cut out alcohol, it’s come down a bit but will take longer. It shows you an important fact that today’s doctors don’t discuss lifestyle but just push drugs on you.
Thank you. My understand is that 20 % of cholesterol is from food and drinks and 80 % of cholesterol the human body make on demand for the body to function.
The other day I read that 200-300 mg a day is allowed and human body make 800 + mg of cholesterol. I looked at cholesterol values of different food, math did not add up to the 200-300 mg limit. My simple breakfast of brown toast, butter and jam goes over the limit!!
I tried statin to see how low my cholesterol can go down, the doctor gave me 10 mg dosage and asked me to go for blood test in 6 months. As I was having few problems after two week, I took a cholesterol test at a chemist and it was down from 7.6 to 2.8 UK units.
I went to my doctor and explained that I do not want to take statin mediation. Not a healthy discussion. I have not gone to any medication for cholesterol, life style change and exercise.
I am maintaining my weight, I do like my drinks. So far healthy enough at 75.
Take care.
Apparently there is no risk in dietary cholesterol - but most cholesterol sources are also linked to high saturated fat intake. Best advice to lower cholesterol is diet and lifestyle (switch to vegetables mostly and exercise).
