I suffer from Achalasia and I don't enjoy eating food any more so I get my pleasure from eating chocolate and Biscuits most nights. I know its bad I know its hardening my arteries but I just cant stop. I gave up smoking due to having a serious Asthma attack and feel all my pleasures are being taken away. Any tips I tried dried fruit but its not the same.

I've got a proper chocolate craving that I have to satisfy on a nightly basis at the moment so I understand but I went through a few months sugar free last year so have some tips but I slipped back at Christmas and it's hard to go back! Try doing it slowly perhaps, cutting down on refined sugar first and swopping it with spoons of Deliciously Ella hazelnut spread from the fridge or the Medjool dates which are like eating toffee....they are great with almond butter to satisfy cravings. The real thing is to give it up completely though and it is true that after about 2-3 weeks your cravings stop and then it's much easier. I definitely found that it was worth going through the awful first few weeks because when I was truly sugar free I had so much more energy and felt fantastic! I'm going to try and get back to this as well so we can do it together! It's good having a buddy actually. The same rule applies that you hear over and over again...if you give in to temptation don't kick yourself about it and jump back on the wagon afterwards. It is a slow process and it's kind of a battle but once you win it's amazing! I then just concentrate on foods that I love that are savoury and eat cheese and oatcakes when I need a 'naughty' snack. Find a savoury 'treat' that you love and deny yourself and eat that instead. I also cut out the processed food and hidden sugars as well and sometimes make my own Deliciously Ella superfood bread. Good luck!

I'm not familiar with Achalasia, but my mother had great difficulty swallowing the last couple years of her life. Perhaps that is what she had. At any rate, the food she could most enjoy was yogurt. I'm thinking now, with the wonderful super blenders available, esp. the ones by Vitamix, you can make all kinds of treats that are even good for you, and should be easier to swallow. I don't care much for dried fruit either, but I now I buy bags of frozen fruit--cherries, strawberries, peaches, berries, etc.--and whirl them up in my Vitamix with some banana, almond milk, and honey, and the smoothie is really delicious. Sometimes I put in a little chocolate with the strawberries, and that is even better.
