Is 7 your total cholesterol level or your ldl level? Because if its your total level, it is unlikely that you have FH as total cholesterol levels are normally above 7.5 and people with FH have these levels from birth. Heart disease can be caused by many other factors other than cholesterol, eg obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, diet, lack of exercise etc. Hope your doctor has given you some proper advice on this.
Take care

Hi Choked,
I am absolutely not an expert but I am pretty sure that FCH (Familial Combined Hyperlipidaemia) is not like FH in that it is not a single genetic mutation that can be found by genetic testing.
I have seen lots of different web sites all trying to give ways of diagnosing it, but they all seem to differ. I think it's a condition that runs in families, but is less "aggressive" than FH in causing heart disease. Is your level of 7 before any drug treatment?
Hi there
I have FCH and regular monitoring- I was told to have blood tests after my mother's sudden stroke at 52. I wasn't given a specific genetic test or counselling - we have a family history of early death of heart attack ( youngest girl of 20) despite no problems of obesity etc. My children have blood tests every 2 years, at the moment they don't need treatment.
do you take statins ?
Hi
Yes I take statins, and Q10 as a supplement to minimise any side effects
Hi dragonfly, what is q10?
