Hello good morning, I am rusavastatin and have little or no side effects. I was originally on atorvastatin which caused me immense side effects and I was taken off it because it caused liver disfunction. My Consultant at Liverpool Chest & Heart Hospital originally suggested rusavastatin taken every other day.

I have been taking this as prescribed since last July with no problems other than I do not sleep very well. The Cardio Rehab team want me to take my statin every day now which I have been doing recently and they suggested that I took the statin early in the day, lunchtime with food to see if that helps with the sleeping. They suggested if I encounter problems to go back to alternate days.

Hi, yes I have been taking 80mg of Simvastatin and 10mg of Ezeterol for quite a few years now with no noticeable side effects. My total cholesterol is between 5 and 5.2 and I feel reasonable well. As well as FH I have asthma and arthritis. I just try to keep my life well balanced and positive.

Hello. This question was asked of me by the Pharmacist as he handed over my prescription for 80mg Atorvastatin plus 10mg Ezetrol. None i said. I stopped running 2 years ago due to painful Claudication in the right calf muscle. Now i manage to hobble 25mls.per week.

It does go to show how different we all are in our reaction to medication. I had an almost allergic reaction to just 10mg of rosuvastatin..maybe I could have tolerated 5mg I don't know because I didn't want to try it.

Yes, I have had 15 years on Atorvastatin and am grateful that it allowed me to have a normal life, with the proviso of leading a healthy lifestyle. I was on various stations before that but they were not as effective. My untreated level was 12 mmol/l so treatment is essential.

Hi

I have been on Atrorvastatin, with no side effects that i could pin to the statin, but i came off them as i have seen what they can do. Unfortunately LDL levels shot up so i will have to go back on.

It seems to me that they either do or don't have side effects with different people, which is similar to most other drugs.

I make the wrong cholesterol, I have always eaten healthy and I was put on statins 6 years ago 40 mg tablets and have never had any side effects the only concern is I cannot get my weight down. Do statins stop weight loss?

I have been taking 40mg rosuvastatin for nearly 2 years - and on reflection i think my memory is not as good and i can feel lethargic but am not sure whether this is the statin effect as i am also taking other medications e.g a beta blocker ( i am only 44 by the way ! )

Of those who have not noticed any side-effect, how many of you take regular exercise?

By regular I mean at least two dedicated exercise sessions lasting 20 mins or more each week of, say, walking, swimming, cycling, etc.

if you dont exercise, diet expect your body to decay faster alive because you are not tuning it to keep it ticking over........or just take drugs to blind that issue

I have just been prescribed 40mg atrovastatin as my left carotid artery has a 70% restriction at one point. I have not been on it long enough to assess any side effects, but with the artery restriction I don't have much choice but to accept it.I'm already on clopidogrel to stop the platelets sticking together to allow better blood flow. I can say that I have always had fairly reasonable cholesterol level at no more than 5.4 in later life, and much better up to 65. I've lived a healthy life style, not overweight. But when you become old you're lucky if you don't have some restriction in the arteries. I'm thinking of having an endarterectomy to clean out the plaque in the right carotid. If anyone's concerned as to furring up in the carotid get a ultra scan on them both. The level of your cholesterol ,as in my case, doesn't mean your arteries aren't affected to varying degrees by plaque.Has anyone had the above operation?

20 months ago had a strange progression of events. After two very vigorous involuntary movement of both left arm and leg a month apart followed a further three months later and for some 3 weeks occasional I had short periods( seconds to a minute) of heaviness in my left arm and leg, and towards the end of these periods my left foot started to feel like a lead weight for short periods of time. After seeing a neurologist he assessed some occasional restriction in blood flow and put me on clopidogrel. The symptoms went away immediately but 6 weeks later, and ever since, I have periods of varying degrees of heaviness, again in my left leg below the knee and in the foot, particularly climbing stairs.

An ultra scan showed normal peripheral artery condition of the legs and arms which surprised me given the symptoms i have at times .As for the 70% carotid restriction: It has to be assumed the first description above was as a result of this restriction and was relieved by the blood thinning of clopidogrel.I have had no other symptoms apart from in the legs as above explained.

I f possible i,ll have the endarterectomy later to remove the plaque in this one place as 70% is pushing it. Although i've heard of people having a 100% restriction having the op.It must be at the death, as we say!

My saying that some have the op with 100% blockage is not true as I'm informed that with that degree of blockage they will not operate as the blockage will have gone up to the top of the artery. The upside of this is that a stroke cannot occur as nothing can get passed the complete blockage Blood flow still goes on from the second artery towards the back of the neck. Sorry to here of your experience.I have not lost any of my energry or feeling particularly tired given my age of 87. Most would say, lucky to still be alive! But we should all stay alive as long as possible, and most importantly do all we can to stay fit and well.

Of course, we all have the right to live as long as is mentally and physically possible, and more so if in other respects are in good health. We hear much today that those born now will have a 1 in 3 chance of living to a 100. So if something to look forward to for future generations then it's good enough to aim for now.

I took Lipitor 20mg for 10 years without any side effects. When I took 40mg I started to become a bit depressed which went away when I resumed my 20mg dose. I got leg pain when I took a generic brand which Im still getting rid of.
