The only liquid oil worthwhile is olive oil, perhaps rapeseed. The rest get oxidised and are highly inflammatory.

Better still is butter, coconut oil, lard, dripping.

The benefits of Nordic diet seems to have been over estimated and there has not yet been a comparison done between it and The Med diet. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedheal...

The best advice still seems to be to avoid processed food and sugar.

Whatever fat you go for, make sure that it is not a trans fat or hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Should read "Partially hydrogenated"

Actually, on consideration, the bald answer the the question is a resounding NO.

Olive oil in its natural state is excellent in any diet. All fats are necessary for the diet - it is the processed fats - ie margarines and processed oils that are the problem!! Eat as natural a diet as possible with good and if you can organic meat, fish, vegetables and fruit. Watch those sugars though!! Try to replace sugar in tea, etc., with honey if you like it - (also great for those who suffer from hayfever at the moment) Keep off processed meats and factory breads and cakes (have you seen the list of chemicals on a wrapped loaf of bread!) Make your own!!

The Scandinavian diet is very high in fish of all kinds, particularly the "oily" ones, herring, salmon and sea trout. If you can't access any or all of these a supplement is just as good.

There is now mounting evidence that rapeseed oil is getting a good reputation in the diet. The "extra virgin" rapeseed oil is a little pricey, but it is very light in taste and can take the place of the oils that are used in cooking and can also be used in salad dressing with good results.

Have a good summer.

Hello,

Thank you.

Thanks for all the response. Am getting there very slowly.

If I look at my grandparents and my dad, they did not know any better, did not have access to medical tests, so are all others in the village. Enjoyed there life and lived up to the age of 90+.

NHS tests and medication, I have to go along with it to control both blood sugar and cholesterol!

Your Grandparents and Parents lived a much healthier lifestyle because they didn't have all the "convenience" foods that we have available today! They ate fresh food, fresh meat and fish, unpasteurised milk and cheese and fruit free of sprays etc. Also most of their food was locally grown and bought! No exotic fruits or spices except the occasional curry made with dried spices, shredded coconut and sultanas and the remains of the sunday roast!ll They also worked hard!! All the best to you.
