My lovely 15 years old grandson died this week.

He had ingested a very toxic fungus while looking for plant samples in woodland. After feeling unwell and in pain his mum took him to A&E where a scan showed his stomach had a hole in it. He had urgent surgery and thirty percent of his stomach was cut away. Over the next four weeks he had several scans and operations including the removal of part of his intestines and a stoma bag was inserted. Each time he was scanned, the fungus had spread rapidly and his immune system couldn't cope. He was taken off life support last Tuesday. If only he had washed his hands this fungus probably wouldn't have entered his body. So young and healthy with so much to look forward to!
