Off topic Friday, late as usual.

I had a tough appointment with my oncologist last week. She told me that she anticipates that my current medication will control my stage IV cancer for the remainder of this year and possibly for the next. After that she has only chemotherapy (docetaxel) in her armoury. She thinks this might prove too much for my liver and kidneys. I have to hope that she was only presenting a worst case scenario, as I feel very fit right now,

My art therapist asked that I paint something in response to this news. I came up with the attached. I enjoyed painting it, the hillside taking only 15 or so minutes. I call it "Meanwhile in the valley." The three trees on the hillside are not allegorical. Rather, I saw an opportunity to paint three trees. . . .

I hope you enjoy it.

It has been a long fight with many failures along the way, but I think I am getting to the point where I produce occasional paintings that I like. What would really fill me with joy would be if Jacqui, without any prodding from me, was to say, "I'd like that on our wall." I keep hoping.

Love your work as always. Please keep sharing it with us all.

As for the cancer progression, as you know this disease is so unpredictable, the only hope is to live for today. And for you, to paint for today.

Sorry you are going through this, Brent. You might want to check out Dr Gerald Potter who used to work at Leicester, his breakthrough is not allowed to be advertised with his name ... it is called Salvestrols. Dr Potter is a medical chemist and holder of 2 or 3 patents for cancer drugs so he does know what he is about.

Hi Leaf. I have asked my carer to look into this to see if it is of use to me. I surely hope so. There is still lots I want to do.

Dr Potter was at the cancer research department of Leicester when the guy with the beginnings of the rediscovery approached him and Dr P was able to tweak a chemistry thing to make it work. At some point a janitor who had studied medieval herbalism saw some papers on a desk one evening and said that there was an herb in the school's ancient herb garden that was supposed to work, and when they tested it had a very similar chemical makeup. They trialed something made from the herb and had good success in many cases - at the time they had mainly officially trialed (this was long ago though) prostate and ovarian issues . They developed something that could be sold to regular folk but that got shut down because of an EU regulation re herbals. So they had to scurry and find another source - fruit. Nothing potentially harmful in it at all, the only thing is you can't eat grapefruit or almonds while taking it. He is also not allowed, by law, to associate his name with what they made available for sale.

The other thing he said is people who did the protocol also reported other chronic issues clearing up, so they were researching in those areas as well.

At one point Dr P moved to Canada which is where I heard him speak a couple of times. I don't know if he stayed here or not.

He got disillusioned with big pharma when he developed a chemo med that didn't make people throw up and the drug company failed to offer it - they rather make more $ selling the 2nd drug that prevented the side effect.

When he was a child he had a dear aunt pass of the disease and vowed when he grew up he would do something about it.

Thats as best as I recall. I am sure they have continued development.

The main office is, I still believe, in Canada , though the products are available in the UK.

Salvestrols.ca can be reached by email and may be able to provide more info.

What Dr P said at the time was try it for 6 months and well within that time your blood work will show improvement if it will work for you - it doesn't work for everyone and they don't know why.

I see they do have a new one for inflammation and one for brain health.. I will give them a whirl.

I just did a quick look and sadly Dr P passed away in March of this year, the notice is in the Guardian. It does say a few things about him there that will back up his credentials.

Dan Burke was the other key player, I know he is a scientist in his own right, I just never had the opportunity to hear him speak so don't know much about him.

reminds me of an ancient greek story...A slave working in the marble quarries said he could teach the king's favourite horse to talk..The king heard and they made a bargain... if the horse talked within a year the slave would be freed and if not he would be executed. the slaves friends told him he was an idiot "Nope. I shall probably die here in the quarry and a lot can happen in a year The king might die - I might die - the horse might die.....or the horse might talk.

What type of cancer do you have - prostate, breast or other?
