Being overcome by health issues

I am going through a challenging time right now. My physical and mental health are gradually winning and is affecting my job. It seems like I may be looking at ill health retirement.

Sorry to read that you're having a tough time, will your employers support you if you take ill health retirement

I am so sorry you are going through a tough time. I hope you manage to get some support to help get you through it or you are able to get your retirement on acceptable terms.

Wishing you all the very best.

Sorry to hear about your health issues and I do hope you’re being supported both mentally and physically. Retirement is a way forward perhaps just so long as it’s suitable for you. You don’t want to be totally isolated

Please keep in touch Bifield34. Xx

Hi Hidden ,

As sassy59 had said, 'retirement is a way forward'. You can talk to your boss and explain what is going on health wise so they know what you may do in the future for them and yourself. It can also give them an idea of if there needs to be any commendations for when you're working so it's better for you.

We will be here for you always. Stay safe. :-)

Thank you everyone for your support. It means an awful lot to me.

My manager is being very supportive. I am now on sick leave until the end of July.

You’re welcome, Hidden .😀👍

It’s good to hear that your boss is supportive and is okay with you taking sick leave until the end of July. Please let us know how you’re doing, too.😀👍👍

That's a tough thing Bifield34, and I'm sorry to hear that things are becoming more difficult for you. It's really a wise thing to recognise the changes, and to try to adjust your life if you can, before everything gets too much on top of you. I don't know what your work and life circumstances are, but it couldn't do harm to review what your options are with regard to retiring a little early, what benefits you might be able to claim, or what help you may need to help you cope with everyday life.Do stay in touch and let us know how you are coping and I hope you can find a way forward so that life is less difficult.

Hi Bifield34 - I’m sorry to hear of your circumstances, but I would just like to add a precautionary note with regards to ill health retirement. My ex-employer decided to use a restructure with one redundancy position being that of my role, instead of even considering myself for ill health retirement . As I was final salary pension, the costs of ill health retirement are very substantial and managers often baulk at the figures given if not covered by the terms of the pension scheme or covered by insurance, I really hope this doesn’t happen to you and feel free to contact myself if you need any advice going forwards. Take care, Harry.

Thank you Harry for your message. I work for a local authority in England, we don't have final salary pension's any more. My employer is being very supportive of me at this difficult time.

I hope everything works out well for you, if not, then I have a wealth of knowledge on such matters. Good luck

Thank you, it's great to know. Are you in the UK? Just wondering because we are probably different to The USA for example.
