Mental health : Hi im nancy and my husband... - Care Community
Mental health
I had a first cousin who was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's at 53. After caring for her at home for several years, her husband could no longer cope with her behavior and placed her in a care facility. My husband was in his late 70s when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He never did anything negative or destructive, but I followed the advice of a social worker to place him in a facility where he could get professional care. I probably would not have survived if I hadn't followed the social worker's advice.
Hi Nancy,
My husband had a brain injury many years ago causing problems with his memory and behaviour and now he is developing dementia.
I know how hard it is to manage and I am so sorry you are struggling. Do message me at any time if I can help or if you just want to rant. Whatever you are facing, I have probably been in the same position.

Hi and welcome to out nut house,
In December 2014, I was diagnosed with early on set Dementia, I was 55 years old but I have realised I had it about 2/3 years prior to diagnosis, has he been diagnosed with anything? Does he have Dementia or has it been mentioned?.

Your husband is so young to be suffering, it must be so difficult for you being his carer. So you have Carers to help?
I have had a very stressful five years or so with my wife who has bipolar and cognitive impairment, so know how difficult can be. Medications didn`t work. Trying to stay sane by keeping up own interests etc and making time for yourself is just about working for me so far. Admission to hospital recently, which I had to push for, has made some improvement. Happy to share experiences if it helps, Mike
