Hi all,
I'm writing this looking out on another slate grey sky through the bare branches of the tree outside. At this time of year it's easy to be depressed and think that there's not much to be cheerful about and never more so than this year, but somehow we have to find reasons to be plodding along.
What made me think of this was the knowledge that, although my wintry tree looks dead and forlorn, I know that deep in the roots the sap will be waiting to rise again in a few months time. And that there's a different kind of beauty about the bare branches of a tree. When I think back to living in the tropics and no defined seasons, it was odd that trees were shedding a few leaves all year round, but are never bare. I conclude that I really like seasonal weather. It's more interesting.
And thinking of sap rising, like hope, it's really good news that we are the first nation to be using the new coronavirus vaccine. It'll take quite a while before it reaches all of us but we are making a good start.
I'm not fearful of trying it at all. I'm no real hero, but without the good will to be prepared to try anything new, we'd all be less advanced in the world than we are. So bring it on. I'm ready and waiting, and I'll be delighted if it leads us to be able to live our more usual lives.
But meantime, I hope you've all had a fairly good week and have something to keep you out of the 'doldrums' over the weekend.
Take care all! 🙏
