Quotation for Thursday 28th May 2020

Hi everyone,

My quote today is attributed to Herman Hesse, the Swiss-German poet and writer. It's on the subject of letting go. There's such a lot in life we feel the need to hold on to, but sometimes there comes the point when we need to let go. Negativity, grudges, old-held beliefs that are no longer true for us. Whatever it is there's a feeling of strength in choosing to let things go, than in trying to hang on to them for the wrong reason.

Never was this more apparent to me than when I sat with my sister whose dementia journey had all but reached its end. I could sense that, although she was no longer cognisant of what was going on around her, she was still clinging to life. And as a family, we were clinging on to her, because we loved her and didn't want her to go. But there came an imperceptible moment when we realised that the time had come. And as she left us, came pain but peace for us, because it had been the time to let go.

When we're feeling stressed in life, it's worth looking at what's going on within it, and deciding what you can allow yourself to let go of. Anyway here's what Herman Hesse said.

"Some of us think holding on makes us strong; but sometimes it is letting go".

Hope everyone enjoys their day today in whatever way they can. Take care.๐Ÿ™

Hi Callendersgal, what a wonderful quote and so very true. Seeing loved ones clinging to life is so difficult but as you say, we cling onto them just for a bit longer. When the time to say goodbye arrives, as it inevitably will, it takes immense strength to let go as you did with your sister.

I wish everyone that strength and feel for those unable to be with loved ones during these challenging times.

Have a peaceful day and stay safe. Xxx๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ˜˜

So true - not that most of you quotes aren't very appropriate. ...they all are. I think the best quotes have been going for many centuries in different versions. I think our current version of this one is to get outside your comfort zone. Like Davids hanging baskets where he choses his lants very carefully. This did not happen this year as the nursery was in lockdown and we ordered plants to be delivered to help support one of the best garden centres in the west at BOdmin wrun by sme of the ices people. The plants were partly their choice because of what was available but now they are really getting going and he is delighted not to have exactly what he would usually chose.

Thank you FredaE and you are right. Sometimes when I'm thinking of different quotations, I find the same one attributed to a number of people across time. It's really good to go outside of your comfort zone now and again, to see how you are able to cope. This crisis has shown so many of us how much we hate change and how little we are able to cope with it. Though in this case, an awful lot of what's had to change has been quite unpleasant, but I think has helped us find out an awful lot about ourselves!

In David's case his baskets seem to have turned out very well and are a nice change from what had become routine. So it's worth stepping out every once in a while, just to see! Thanks for your thoughts and please continue to both stay well and to continue staying safe.๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒบโ˜€๏ธ
