Does crying make you sleepy?

Mom is in hospital for a little over week. She was in last month then moved to rehab facility back in hospital moving tonite to rehab facility but Doctor says we need to start thinking about hospice. I just lost an aunt I was close to this summer who passed away a week after I made decision to move her to hospice. This is too much too soon and I can’t stop crying

This is all too much for you fallen_leaf and my heart goes out to you. Explain to your mothers doctor just how you are feeling and don’t be rushed into doing anything.

I can only imagine what’s going through your mind but I’m hoping that your mother will be properly cared for wherever she is.

Thinking of you at this difficult time. Sending strength to you and lots of gentle hugs. Xxxx

Hi fallen_leaf,

I’m so sorry to hear you now have this to bear too. Life can be very harsh to us sometimes.

It’s absolutely normal to feel strongly emotional and for the tears to fall, and you shouldn’t feel that you can’t allow that to happen. It’s a sign of our true humanity to feel so emotional.

If you really feel you aren’t able to cope and feel generally low over an extended time then please do have a chat with your family doctor for some kind of support, and, if you can find one, maybe join a support group for others facing a similar situation to your own.

Generally speaking you can feel sleepy after tears. It’s not so much the actual crying as the release of pent up emotion. And in that respect crying can be a part of a process that helps to emotionally heal us.

Thinking of you at this very sad and challenging time and wishing you the strength to best help your mom.

Hi there,

Your feelings are only natural and your body's way of trying to cope with what has been a very sad and challenging time. I support the advice our wonderful members have given you. You need to take time to care for your own emotional needs too. Thinking of you at this difficult time and sending you our very best wishes,
