Daily fall

My wife has Parkinsons, she is 81 & is falling from Zimmer frame every day. She has spent a couple of weeks in hospital, trying to find cause , she blacks out spins & falls. They found out it wasn't low blood press ure. I know it is a possible symptom of Parkinsons. Has anyone a similar experience & a solution. She currently 3 wounds being dressed, broken hip mending & numerous bumps & bruises. Grab rails in all particularly vulnerable places. She will be offered a season ticket to A & E soon I think!

Hi toofworc,

I'm so sorry to hear this, what a worry this must be for you both. Here's a link to some information from the Parkinson's UK website about home care needs: parkinsons.org.uk/informati...

Maybe it is time for social service and occupational therapist home assessment, as her needs are changing, and she may need more than just handrails in place. Your local NHS Falls Prevention Team should be available to assess and offer advice as well. They can observe how she moves around the home and suggest changes. You maybe able to get a local council grant for home improvements and towards the cost of possibly getting extra home help.

I know we've given you this before but here is the:

Parkinson's UK Helpline Tel: 0808 800 0303 [Opening times: Monday-Friday: 9am-7pm, Saturday: 10am-2pm (Closed Sundays/bank holidays)]

Also check out their local advisors: parkinsons.org.uk/informati...

Do let us know how things are going. You are doing an amazing job caring for your wife.

Best wishes,

MAS Nurse and Moderator

Thankyou for all your kind & helpful replies. The menieres is particularly interesting . My wife is very deaf. She is into her 4th hearing aid 2 NHS & 2 Priivate. Currently NHS, the best of pretty dismal improvement. I will look on the net today for Menieres. Many thanks Toofworc

Hi toofworc,

So sorry to hear about your wife's plight and of course it needs some urgent action to help this to stop or at least for your wife to be safer. I can't add anything further to MAS_Nurse's helpful suggestions, so I just want to wish you both well, and I hope you can get this resolved quickly as I know it's really frustrating when the medical profession can't find an easy solution as to why it's happening. Very best wishes.
