I keep falling over when I get out of bed
Hi Beverley, I’ve no idea really but I personally get very light headed some mornings so have to wait until that passes before getting up.
Are you able to have your pills and a glass of water by your bed so you can take them before getting up?
Wishing you well. Xxxx
Hello Beverley71,
I'm so sorry that's happening. It would be wrong to suggest why that's happening to you, as it needs a proper assessment by someone who is clinically trained to give a diagnosis and recommend what will help you. That's your GP surgery, so please do make an appointment to go and have this checked out.
Don't leave it for too long to do so, as you could injure yourself in a fall situation.
Until you can get an appointment, you might try getting out of bed more slowly and carefully.
Sit up for a minute or two before standing, and stay within reach of something solid you can grab hold of as you rise to your feet.
I hope you manage to get to the bottom of this, and please come back at some time and let us know how you are getting on.
Hi Beverly71,
Sorry that you are experiencing this problem at the moment and Calendersgal is correct in suggesting that you sit on the edge of the bed for a few seconds before attempting to stand and then again wait a few seconds before moving away from the edge of the bed. There are several possible reasons for this problem you are experiencing, seeing the GP sooner rather than later is also a very good idea. As you take blood pressure tablets it is possible that they need adjusting or it could be a slight problem with the balance centre which is in the inner ear. Only your health professional will be able to help you get to the bottom of this. Good luck and do let us all know how you are getting on please.
Best wishes,
MAS Nurse.
I kept a flask, and a jam sandwich, I then ate both and took my pred and snuggled down for an hour. Then sat up for a while and then stood up. It worked.
Although I am no longer taking pred, I still have a drink while I sit then stand up. If I have to get up from a prone position to upright in one move, I 'swim' - this could be due to old age of course.
Hi Beverley 71 , everyone is correct by saying see your Doctor , I was like this as well , I do have high BP , but it wasn't that , it turns out I Have Labrynthitus , in both ears , rather like tinnitus , but I get unbalanced when laying down and cannot lay flat as I literally feel sea sick or the room feels like it's going over me ! I have 2 pillows across and 1down so I'm sat up more , or when I wake up I sit in bed upright for a few minutes to get my balance back , and if severe Doctor gave me Buccastem to put under your top lip and it melts slowly to get in your system , it's like a sea sick tablet ! Just take things easy when you wake up , and don't get overtired , that seems to make it worse 🙄, Get checked out , and prop yourself up in bed ! Take care x
I get dizzy when I turn left or turn on to my left side in bed . With me it`s arthritis in my neck that causes it . I take meds for high blood pressure too but it shouldn`t make any difference if you take your meds regularly x
If I feel light headed at all getting up. I sit down for about 5mins till it passes..as you probably know your blood pressure can change rapidly if you stand up to quickly there are a number of times I fell very disoriented for quite a while..so went back to bed ..until I could sort of anchor my thoughts in one place...in checking bp that was ok but pulse was down to 41!! On checking with the doctor a visit to a and e was taken asap..for an ecg etc..has happened a couple of times since..but a quick rest seems to sort it out......I don't take any blood pressure medication..just pills for ulcerative colitis...and I gather that I have sarcodois which untreatable...this might cause the dizziness i sometimes suffer from....I would suggest anybody who suffers pro!omg dizziness when standing up for a long period sees a doctor asap
Interesting, as I often feel giddy and my legs get shaky and only today I saw my doctor and he thinks its the higher dose of anti-depressants I am taking which might be the culprit ,and I often think that medication might cure some things but cause another problem?
