Lost husband with dementia & Alzheimer's

Police just rang to say they have found my husband who is ok & are bringing him home. Throughout the last 6 yrs when his wandering has been a problem the police have been just wonderful & caring, l can't thank them enough. I wish social services had a fraction of their compassion. Thank you everyone

Hi S0ph1e, What a relief, I'm so glad your husband has been found safe and sound! I've had a look at your profile and previous posts, in which folks here have made some really helpful suggestions such as putting a GPS tracker on him, which would give you some peace of mind and you can track where he is. I see too that Social Services response to you has been unhelpful. It may be worth revisiting with them and asking for a 'Care Needs Assessment' if you haven't before. Take a look at this link to the Alzheimer's Society and/or calling their helpline for advice and support:

alzheimers.org.uk/info/2002...

National Dementia Helpline: 0300 222 1122

You need to care for yourself too! Here's some links for more information that may help: alzheimers.org.uk/info/2004...

Thanks folks on this community for being so supportive and offering really practical advice.

Best wishes.

So glad to hear this good news. I hope social services step up to the mark now. I am considering one of these trackers while my husband can still use the call facility on it. He can no longer use his mobile and the one button to push seems a good idea. I did see one which didn't cost very much for the link. I agree with you that some providers charge a lot.

I’m glad that your stress has for now gone, Dementia is the umbrella name for all the types, as Alzheimer’s, Vascular, mixed and so on, I have Vascula Dementia and I do understand your stress because my wife has been through a lot too, it must be very scary when he goes walk about. One thing my wife found that works is an app on my phone or a tracker to hide in my coat somewhere lol, anyway please stay strong, easier said than done. Thank you for being there.

How kind of u to reply, l wish my husband understood he has an illness but he does not. This is a cruel illness so difficult to deal with, my husband barely knows who l am, if only we had some time together when he can be aware, l so much miss the man l married. l wish u both well
