With school holiday's fast approaching have you made contact with your care provider to find out what cover is in place when your main carer is away?

Continuity of care can often fall down during the summer holiday's. Here are some top tips for the coming weeks.

It is wise to contact your provider now to discuss any changes to your care plan over the next few weeks.

Keep them informed of the following:

Key visit times that must be kept to, this may be due to medication regimes, work or day centre commitments.

Any specific appointments where times cannot be changed, GP or hospital

Do they have plans in place to introduce replacement carers?

Ensure they inform you of the name of the replacement carer and time of visit

It is also helpful to let agencies know if there is any flexibility with the times especially if the calls are for domestic tasks

Let them know if you are going to be away yourself

The key as always, is communication, although the agencies should inform you of any changes, with the busy period upon us this does sometimes doesn't always happen.

Hi I have a 99 year old mother in law who needs medium to light help with everyday living. How do I get a care plan established for her. What is a realistic wage for a living carer with accommodation provided.

Many thanks
