Hi everyone, I'm thinking of giving up full time employment to care for my mother who has dementia, does anyone know what benefits I would be able to claim?

Since I don't know where you live, I can't respond about your benefits. However, if you let people here know where you live, you may receive useful answers. I live in the U.S. and was employed by an umbrella agency of N.Y. State when my father died and I became responsible for my 80-year-old mother who had Alzheimer's. I didn't inquire as to whether there were benefits I could claim as a caregiver because I knew I could not care for my mother and my husband and teenage children at the same time. I put my mother in a nursing home. I am glad I continued my full-time employment for the next 20 years, enabling me to collect both Social Security benefits and a modest pension from the State of New York.

From what I can figure so far it differs considerably from one LA to another. I will be interested to see the responses. I have found Doncaster LA 'support' to be sadly wanting in any assistance or advice.
